To Follow or Not to Follow | Summer Trends

Each year it seems like trends come and go faster than anyone can keep up with in the summer.

As a local or small business working on your social media, it can be overwhelming to navigate through. Let’s talk about when it’s right for you to hop on those fast pace trends and how to pick which ones are right for your brand.

Stay Up to Date on Social Media Trends

Education is key when it comes to staying on top of trends.

We are lucky to have social media platforms that offer us multiple examples in covenant locations on what is currently trending each month, week, or day. Some examples of these include the Tiktok “For You” page, Instagram “Explore” page, and the Facebook “Trending” page.

Because of algorithms, these pages are catered and calculated to show consent that you will enjoy, which is the best part!

Expose yourself to what is relevant among followers, as well as among similar brands to your own to see what you would feel comfortable and confident participating in.

Avoid comparing yourself to others on social media.

Your followers come to see YOUR content for a reason!

No matter what, there will always be someone who seems to be ahead of the trends on your social media pages, to the point where you might start thinking they are starting them all.

The most important thing to remember is that as long as you're staying consistent to your social media goals, you are succeeding. What works for them might not work for you, and vice versa.

Some of Our Top Tips for Following Social Media Trends this Summer

  1. Stay on top of local trends and things that are happening around your community, city or state. This will help boost your organic reach and could be a good first start at tackling trends.

  2. Try to avoid participating in trends that could be seen as problematic later. It can be difficult to navigate this, as we can’t see the future, however avoiding things with previous problematic celebrities, influencers, topics, etc could be beneficial.

  3. Test the waters! If you are not afraid to try out different trends and their formats, try multiple and see what you enjoy doing the most and what performs the best on your pages.
