What is LinkedIn?
LinkedIn is a platform designed for professional networking and expanding business and personal growth. With over 700 million active users at the beginning of 2022, almost 25% of all American adults use LinkedIn.
On LinkedIn, you also have the ability to post job openings as a way to expand your business and meet new individuals that may fit perfectly into your business needs.
Now let’s dive into the steps of setting up a business account for your business on the world largest professional networking platform!
Step 1: Create a LinkedIn Company Page
To begin working on LinkedIn, you first need to create a company page or profile. To do this, we recommend signing up using your work email address so everything business-related is tied to your work email.
Once you have logged in, you can now begin the creation process. First, you’ll want to click on the work icon in the upper right hand corner of the page. Scroll to the bottom of the menu that pops up and select Create a Company Page.
You will then be prompted to select what kind of business page you are creating from the following options:
Small Business
Medium to Large Business
Showcase Page
Educational Institution
After you have selected the type of page you are, just fill out the rest of the information and your page creation is complete!

Step 2: Optimize Your Page
To gain an audience and presence on LinkedIn, you’ll want to optimize your page to the greatest potential. First, scroll down on your page and find the edit button. Empty boxes prompted with questions will pop up and you’ll want to fill all of them out.
To connect more with other posts related to your audience, go to the hashtag button and input potential hashtags your business is interested in to see current posts from those around you.
Finally, you will want to add a custom button prompting individuals to click on it to see or view more. Options for the buttons include:

Step 3: Build Up Your Following
Building up your following and presence is one of the most important steps to developing your business account. If no one knows about your page, how will you gain traction?
To get started with this, LinkedIn offers four ways to share your page with people.
Share your page: From your main page, you can click share your page next to the edit button.
Link to your page from your business website: By adding the LinkedIn icon to your business website, visitors will be able to see your LinkedIn page more easily.
Ask employees to update profiles: Asking employees to update and edit their profiles can allow them to include a link to the business LinkedIn page into their description. This can allow for more new visitors to your page!
Send invitations to follow your page: From your business page on LinkedIn, you can send invitations to your connections to follow the page. This isn’t always the most effective way to get a following, but it doesn’t hurt to try!
Step 4: Implement Your LinkedIn Marketing Strategy
Before even creating a business page on LinkedIn, you should have a strategy about how you are going to tackle the platform and promote your business. Asking questions to yourself and team like “What is the goal of our LinkedIn page” can help you follow through with an ideal social media strategy.
You also want to focus on the type of the content you will be posting on your LinkedIn page. Knowing how often you will be posting, the type of content/topics that will be posted and how you can repurpose existing content onto the page will be necessary for growth!
